My Country Road series

 Kellum Valley, Ga.  
       
    A community, neighborhood right beside the North Georgia National Forest.  In my opinion one of the most beautiful area's in the state.  

    I have family that own a cabin in these North Georgia mountains and I go there quite frequently to rest and  recharge.  

    As I walk through this valley I sometimes take pictures of the area and on one very beautiful summer day last year I took some photo's of the roads where I went walking.  

 



As I walk through this valley, it amazes me all the nuances of the landscape.  There are miles of green grass pastures, and miles of shady mountain paths.  No matter where you are, it seems that you can hear the babbling of the creek.  The most peaceful succulent atmosphere.  

   Drawing this pictures was almost as relaxing as the walks I take.  There isn't a neighbor or passer by that won't wave to you or ask you if you are lost. 

  


Right on the edge of the forest you can find homes new & old snuggled in the hills, fields with horse and cow, dogs running along side as if they to want to go exploring.  


    


These drawings will sell for $165.00 each or as a set for $450.00.  There will be a 2 week turnover for shipping and handling.  

        

         "Gerbera Daisy" 

  I decided to go with pink for my "G".  I thought it would be nice to paint a gerbera daisy drinking up some rain.  I painted the rain with white fabric paint mixed with acrylic.  

  I realize that all my letters will only appeal to a young children and a female audience, but I also realize that I am more familiar with that demographic, so I'm not going to concern myself with that aspect of my goal at this time.

 

      "H for Heather"

   Moving on with my flower theme, I completed my H in the color heather and painted heather flowers up both sides.  It's going back to a less bold format, but I thought it would be a good theme for this letter.

           "Ivy climbing the I" 

When I started my letter I, I thought that a painted lace would look quite nice.  I began by painting the letter in brown, then I spray painted lace in red.  After I completed this step I realized that with a little fabric paint inside the spaces left by the lace, that might bring a look of brick which I thought would be quite nice.  I then placed ivy as if it were climbing up the letter in a circular movement.  

I believe this is the first letter that I can say is might suit any gender, quite pleased with the way it turned out.

I'm really happy with the direction my alphabet is going, however I believe that it's about time to start working on a drawing again.  I have a few aprons that I have been working on.  I'll be posting those soon also.  

I am very thankful to those who have taken the time to read my blog and see the art I'm working on.  I appreciate that you have joined me on my journey.

F for Fence with pretty flowers

I'm constantly thinking of different ways to handle my letters.  I am working on painting some aprons and discovered that the white fabric paint works very well when I add to while and blue paint in clouds.  

I just couldn't resist placing a silk daisy behind the fence.  I was so tickled with the small silk flowers I added to the "D" I decided to continue with that thought for "F".  

 

I want my paper mache' letters to stand on their own, I would also love to add  diversity to my letters and as I start over adding 2nd additions, I will add more thoughts for themes. I believe this will allow all people to be hopefully be represented in my art work.  I want to fill the desires of as many people as I can. 

I will remind everyone once again, I will take commissioned orders.

D in Lace

                                    

                                    " D in Lace " 

   I went rather bold with my D in this bright green paint.  I originally thought I would continue on with the painted lace, but I got a little side tracked one day when I went to lunch with a friend of mine.  

   We had lunch at The Picnic Cafe in Belle Meade, TN.  It is a very quaint and delightful place for a luncheon on a sunny afternoon.  

 

 The cafe places the prettiest little lace doillies on each dinner plate.  When I finished my meal I noticed that my doilly was still stain free, so I thought I might take it home to experiment painting on, in lieu of my new found obsession with painting lace.  This is what is the result of my experimentation.  I was rather pleased with the finished product. I topped it off with a big pink bow and a bunch of small white silk flowers and tiny little flowers along the left side.

         Creating the Wedding Present

Spray painting lace is really a lot of fun.  Each section you paint may not turn out as the others, so it is always rather exciting to see how your next one will look!  I tried to make sure that the scalloped edges were always placed in strategic areas that would enhance the overall piece.  

I knew from the beginning that I wanted to create a piece that would have both of the couples favorite colors in it, especially since their colors were red and blue, but it was very tricky placing these colors in just the right way. 

 

 

 I covered each area that had already been completed before started another, and the drying process took 24 hours, so this is not a quick project.  I would say that the entire process took almost a month.  I was always afraid that if I was not diligent about the 24 hours that the paint would bleed onto the paper and my entire project would be ruined.  I could not afford for that to happen. 

At last it was time to place the flowers, I had always had an idea of where I thought the flowers would look the best, and the Mother of the Groom agreed.  With the "R" painted red and blue, the white roses were just the thing to bring in all together and tone down the bright colors just enough.  

It's a shame it's not July!

Commissioned Piece for newlyweds

This is a large paper mache' letter that I did for a couple that recently got married.  The technique is spray painting through lace. 

I found some very lovely wedding lace at a fabric store and went to a crafts shop to get the spray paint in each of the couples favorite colors.  

It was a very lengthy process, but I do feel that it turned out quite nicely.  After the paint was dry I created a faux wedding bouquet and attached with hot glue.  

I included the Mother of the Groom in every stage, and she is very happy with the results.
